This project provides 16 new low energy homes on the site of a 1950s church in Henbury, Bristol. We have worked with our client, Bristol City Council’s Housing Delivery Team, to ensure that the new development sits comfortably in its leafy context whilst making best use of the available site and meeting the council’s ambitious sustainability goals. In keeping with the council’s heat hierarchy policy, all heating and hot water is provided through air source heat pumps. Each home is served by a whole house heat recovery ventilation system (MVHR) to reduce energy use and maintain fresh air within the homes. Emmett Russell Architects worked with Contractors Stepnell and a consultant team that included Roundfield, Jubb, Method, Austin Partnership and RLB. The project uses an advanced MMC timber panel system called Sigma II produced by Donaldson Timber Systems.
